ICS I Computer : Lesson 2 - What is Information Technology?

Chapter 1 - Information Technology || ICS I

Lecture # 2

This is the Second Lecture of ICS I Computer. In this lecture we'll learn about:
  • Information Technology
  • Digital Convergence
  • Modern Scenario of Information Technology
ICS I Information Technology

Information Technology

Definition

  • "It is technology that combines computing with high speed communication links that carry data in the form of text, sound, images, videos etc, from one place to another in this global village."
  • It is the interconnection of computers enables people to send and receive information.
  • All the people in the world are connected with each other through IT.
  • Internet is also the main source of IT.
  • People can easily send or receive information sitting anywhere in the world.
  • Our world has become a Global village in which people are connected with each other.
ICS I Information Technology

 Digital Convergence

  • In this, different types of things are converted into digital form.

Modern Scenario of Information Technology

Modern scenario is the modern situation or scene of Information Technology.
The major applications of Information Technology are:
  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)

    • Artificial intelligence is used to make machines such as robots which will think, learn or do things like humans.
    • It is also the fifth generation of computers.
    • Through AI, world is changed. Many robots are already constructed and are serving in different purposes.
    • In future, robots will take place of humans. What do you think?

    ICS I Artificial Intelligence
  • Web Based Applications

    • These are the software present on the web. Through them, a user can perform many tasks like playing games, getting information etc.
    • These applications can only be used by connecting to the internet.

    ICS I Web Based Applications
  • E-Commerce

    • E-Commerce is also known as Electronic Commerce. (Commerce means Business)
    • The business which is done by using internet is called E-Commerce
    • Online shopping is also very popular form of E-Commerce

    ICS I E-Commerce
  • M-Commerce

    • M-Commerce is also known as Mobile Commerce.
    • The business done by Mobile phones is known as M-Commerce.
    • It is like E-commerce, the only difference between E-Commerce and M-Commerce is the source (Computer or Mobile).

    ICS I M-Commerce
  • Computer Animation

    • Animation is the sequence of pictures
    • Animation is the moving pictures.
    • The process of creating moving images using computer is called computer animation.

    ICS I Computer Animation
  • Multi-media

    • Multimedia is the collection of pictures, audio, animation and video presented by computer.

    ICS I Multimedia
  • Hypermedia

    • Hypermedia is a process of creating links to files that contain pictures, audio, videos and text etc.

    ICS I Hypermedia
  • Distributed Computing

    • It is the process of doing a single task using multiple computers.
    • It is more like a group task which will combine after completing the task.

So Zemination Students, We've Learned

  • Information Technology is the base of connection of people.
  • Digital Convergence is to convert anything into digital.
  • There are some modern scenarios of IT.

ICS I Computer : Lesson 1 - What is a Computer?

Chapter 1 - Basics of Information Technology

In this first lecture of ICS I Computer, we'll learn about:
  • Computer
  • Input
  • Processing
  • Output

What is Computer? || ICS I

An electronic machine??
An electronic machine which is used for calculations??

No. The proper definition will be:

  • "Computer is an electronic machine to which we give input, it processes the input, and gives us output in our desired form."
  • Old definition was "Computer is a calculating machine". But now a computer can do a lot of tasks besides calculating so we'll not prefer this definition.

So what is input, processing and output?

Input

The commands given to a computer to do tasks.
For example : If I say to my student Ali to fetch me a glass of water, then that will be input in easy words.

Processing

The process of understanding input by computer is called processing. A computer can only give us output until or unless it understands the input.
For example : Ali will fetch me a glass of water if and only if he understands my command.

Output

The process of giving result is called output or we can say that the process of giving result after understanding the input is called output.
For example : Ali fetched me a glass of water. It means that he understood my command. Thanks Ali dear :)

So Zemination Students We've Learned

  • Input is into the computer.
  • Output is out of the computer.
  • Processing is the thinking process.

Now the definition of computer makes sense to us.
