Chapter 1 - Basics of Information Technology
In this first lecture of ICS I Computer, we'll learn about:
- Computer
- Input
- Processing
- Output
What is Computer? || ICS I
An electronic machine??
An electronic machine which is used for calculations??
No. The proper definition will be:
- "Computer is an electronic machine to which we give input, it processes the input, and gives us output in our desired form."
- Old definition was "Computer is a calculating machine". But now a computer can do a lot of tasks besides calculating so we'll not prefer this definition.

So what is input, processing and output?
Input
The commands given to a computer to do tasks.
For example : If I say to my student Ali to fetch me a glass of water, then that will be input in easy words.
Processing
The process of understanding input by computer is called processing. A computer can only give us output until or unless it understands the input.
For example : Ali will fetch me a glass of water if and only if he understands my command.
Output
The process of giving result is called output or we can say that the process of giving result after understanding the input is called output.
For example : Ali fetched me a glass of water. It means that he understood my command. Thanks Ali dear :)
So Zemination Students We've Learned
- Input is into the computer.
- Output is out of the computer.
- Processing is the thinking process.
